Duplicate and ubiquitous emails along with other user mailbox items increase the size of PST files. Overloading PST files with unnecessary emails increase the access time or the seek time of MS Outlook and its performance gets affected. Furthermore, increase in PST size also increases the risk of PST corruption due to the size limitation problem. As PST files have certain pre-defined size limit based on the version of MS Outlook used, their size must not exceed than the limit. Other disadvantages of having duplicate items are wastage of the logical memory and larger startup time. Cases of Outlook getting hanged up while accessing the emails is also a common occurrence due to duplicate items. It becomes important to remove duplicates in Outlook from time to time in order to empty the extra space taken up in the PST files.
